HP Pavilion DV6-1350US Espresso – Laptops 2010 Review
Price range : $655.95 ~ $799.00

The laptop is top of the line HP product which has Core 2 Duo Processor, 4 GB RAM and 320 GB Hard Drive. Quality of image is simply awesome and makes it a perfect for entertainment. It is absolutely beautiful. Way to go Hp you have outdone yourselves. As soon as I received it, I set it up. It was as easy as 1,2,3. I could not put this laptop down. I stayed up til 3am fooling around with this laptop. The multitasking on this thing is so fast. Wow! Windows 7 is awesome. I love all the new features that they included.

Overall assessment:
Pros:
-Pretty (the eye needs something too, lol)
-Fast
-Great battery life (but because it’s a 12 cell it’s really chunky)
-Will appeal to a lot of people with different needs
-Price

Cons:
-Little bulky
-Battery is huge (inconvenient for hauling it around)
-Shiny surface (hard to keep clean)
-Power inlet (why oh why do so many manufacturers put it on the right side with a straight (instead of bend) plug). In my opinion it would be more convenient on the left side or the back.

Notes:

When you start it up and set it up and its all ready the first thing you should do is make the recovery disks (it doesn’t come with them) incase anything wrong were to happen. All you need are three DVD-R or DVD + R disks and follow the instructions.

About the BIG battery it doesn’t really bother me. This is why i went to Staples so i could see if this was really a big deal like people made it seem. I like the angle it puts the laptop on, its easier for me to type on it. It makes a space so that air can go through keeping it cool. The only inconvenience i see is that it could be somewhat awkward to carry around. But again that wont really matter due to the fact that i have the big satchel bag to carry it around in and i think its a fair trade 8 hours of battery life for a simple awkward carrying complication.

ASUS UL30A-X5 Thin and Light – Laptops 2010 Review
Price range : $649.99 ~ $729.00

I am currently a student on a budget and was looking for the following: 1) Less than $700 in price, 2) Screen size between 13-14″, 3) Windows 7 already installed (I didn’t want an older computer with Vista that I would have to manually upgrade to Win 7 myself), 4) At least 320GB HD, 3 GB DDR3 RAM, and a Pentium Core 2 Duo SU7300 equivalent or greater processor, 5) Thin and light, and 6) 4+ solid hours of battery life. Although a netbook offers a small size and easy portability, I didn’t want to sacrifice power and performance for everyday tasks. On the other hand, I also didn’t want a large “desktop replacement” laptop that would be a hassle to carry around or difficult to take with me anytime I was away from home. In summary, I wanted a laptop that offered a good combination of power, performance, and size for my money.

I’m VERY happy with it. It’s strange that I DON’T have any issues with touchpad and wireless dropping signal. Some people are complaining that touchpad might register some click while you type. Well here is a simple solution; switch the touchpad OFF, you can do that. I miss the 1.3 mega pixel camera and Bluetooth. You can watch HD movies smoothly with this monster. I was also considering buying Acer Timeline 3810 but after reading all the reviews I decided to go with this one.

Pros
- Keyboard. A pleasure to type on.
- Touchpad. It drags at first, but once you get some finger oil on it, and change the pointer speed, it’s one of the best that I’ve used. Very smooth two finger scroller. Support for customized two and three finger click.
- Screen. Bright and easy to read at 30 degree angles.
- Battery life. Yes, it will do over 10 hours.
- Weight/size. 1 inch thin and very light.
- Body. Love the brushed black metal look on the case.
- Asus facial recognition login. Didn’t think that I would care, but it’s nice to have the computer log in, without touch, when I’m sitting in front of it.
- Asus FastBoot (not the BIOS fast boot). This lets you configure which programs load during startup and which load after. Speeds up the boot quite a bit.
- Decent speakers. Not ear-destroying, but suitable for the size. Much better than most netbooks.

Cons
- Placement of touchpad. It still registers my palm as I’m typing even at the extreme setting. Downloaded the new touchpad driver, but that didn’t fix. Still looking for a solution. This is by far the most frustrating problem. UPDATE: The TouchFreeze utility seems to almost fix the issue.
- Case still shows fingerprints.
- Web cam is low res and has difficulty in low light (haven’t tried different drivers yet).

Overall, this is far the best laptop you will find right now on the market considering the price and performance.

Toshiba Satellite T135-S1310 TruBrite – Laptops 2010 Review
Price Range : $599.99 ~ $799.99

The laptop is awesome with few drawbacks not already noted (glassy surface = fingerprints all over). The battery life is great, screen fantastic, keyboard a little slick but adaptable. My big issue is with Toshiba support. It took me nearly a month to convince them that the machine had a defective wireless card and/or antenna out of the box. I should note that I did all of the troubleshooting for them and if I didn’t know my way around the technology wonder if I would still be using a machine that only connected when 2 feet from an access point.

About the sound: you can increase sound DRAMATICALLY if you follow this steps:

Go to Control Panel
Select SMART AUDIO
On the lower part, select SMART EQ/3D SETTINGS
Select CUSTOM
Pull the buttons up (i have them still at number 7, quite enough as you will see)
Enjoy AWESOME volume!!!

Well, it has been almost a month since I bought my T135 and I can say I love this little Titan.

Pros:

-LIGHTWEIGHT
-Powerful. With Windows 7 64 edition, I can get as much performance as a my other Core 2 Duo Toshiba Sattellite A135 laptop.
- I can get 9 hours plus of battery life (Eco Mode). As per the other person stating that he can get only 4 hours of battery life, that is in full power mode. Try to get 4 hours of battery life at full power from any other machine and you will fail miserably
- Great Graphics
- Great sound if you do as I stated above:
- Wifi 802.11N!!! I mean, I an get my 802.11N signal from some 200 meters in my garden!!!
- Gorgeous looks
-FAST, FAST, FAST
I have edited video and music (iTunes and a couple of DVD rippers) and it does them in a couple of minutes
- IT’S a TOSHIBA!!!!
- Video conferencing (Skype and Messenger) it’s really good, although the camera it’s only 1.3 megapixels
- After 10 hours of use, at full power, it barely gets warm. You can put it on your bag right away
- Ultra Low Voltage means Ultra Low Energy Consumption. I mean guys, we have to be environmentally conscious. This babe just uses 19V of energy at full power, down to 8-10 Volts at Eco Mode.

NEUTRAL

- I hate on every laptop (no matter what brand) the touch pads. I always use an external mouse.

CONS

- You can do a fingerprint exam on the laptop. I do not know why it gets so finger dirty (and believe me, I wash my hands very often). I bought a GelySkin for the exterior and it’s a great add-on

Hope this review is usefull

Gateway NV7802u Black Laptop – Laptops 2010 Review
Price Range : $649.99 ~ $699.98

This Gateway is fast, plays DVDs with no problem, the high def is great and very crisp, and the 17.3 screen is plenty of real estate to work from. The keyboard was a little flat for my liking but after using it a while I’ve adjusted to it. I did have a problem with the Norton Internet Security locked up and quit working. I had to unistall it and ordered a new copy of Norton Security 2010 for $29.99 and it works great. The 2010 version is listed for Windows 7. It may have been a Norton problem with windows 2007. The screen is larger and brighter than our HP dv6.

This laptop is absolutely phenomenal. The screen is the most crisp, colorful and sharpest display I have ever seen. It literally blows everything else out of the water. I have it sitting next to two other laptops right now that I paid at least double for and there is really no comparison at all. Windows 7 runs smooth as silk, there is very little bloatware pre-installed. I’m simply floored by how good this computer is at this price point. Also the touch pad is at times not as responsive as I would like, the scrolling function that is. I would like it to be be a little more sensitive when scrolling up and down. Just wish I could adjust the response to the touch pressure some but that’s not possible. But there are a lot of software adjustments to the touch pad available and it works great overall. The scrolling is usually when surfing so that could be a site or browser issue rather than the touch pad itself. The battery is advertised at “up to 5 hours” but I have not gotten more than three and half hours–still more than the 2 hours I usually get with our HP. This computer, upon first powerup, starts you off with the wireless setup which was unbeliebably easy.

A video on the webcam turned out great – sent it to my brother in California and he loved it. Put on a couple professional programs that use a great deal of memory and the computer didn’t even notice. No problems with many simultaneous programs running. Please note: I am not a gamer!

Only negative: Key pad is difficult to use – I will go wireless mouse asap. DDR3 memory with 4g is NOT expandable.

I took the lap top out on the patio, to the garage, and all through the house and the signal was great. All in all, for the money, I don’t think you can do better. This seems to have it all.

HP Pavilion DM3-1030US – Laptops 2010 Review
Price Range : $588.99 ~ $699.98

This computer is incredible! Extremely accessible price with great performance. Light weight, small size and very thin. The 64 bit OS helps a lot, making everything much faster. This is a beautiful machine. Check it out — 4.2 lbs, 1″ thick, Magnesium case, 7200 rpm HDD, spectacular HD display, 4 GB memory, 320 GB Hard Drive, Iconic keyboard Windows 7, 4 USB ports, HDMI port, great WiFi, etc. Screen quality is good but a touch too dim for my personal preference. The maximum screen resolution us 1366×768.

Sound quality is average but not powerful. Speakers are in the front edge of the notebook made by Altec Lansing. Dynamic range is limited and has high and midrange frequencies with a weak base. Battery life in real time applications (WiFi, Bluetooth off, screen brightness on high, and running the Internet is about 4.5 to 5 hours. Only with Bluetooth and WiFi off, and screen brightness to 75%, Power Saver mode, can you approach the 6 hour mark. High Performance mode cuts battery life by about 20%.

All for under $600! It’s astonishing. One begins to wonder what truck they steal these off of. Yes, my title is correct, “Macbook Killer.” Look at the two machines side by side — they are pretty much the same thing. Yes, the Macbook Pro has a backlit keyboard, ok. But the DM3 has an HDMI port, which means I can attach it to my HDTV and play Neflix or Itunes movies, or youtube, etc. in High Definition. Sure, it has no optical drive, but folks, cd’s and dvd’s are becoming old technology, and being replaced by thumb/jump drives. Even software will be coming on these. Actually, the DM3 weighs almsot a pound less than a Macbook by eliminating the optical drive, and the advantages of using an external drive are many. Keyboards are almost identical, case is a toss up, display’s are similar, windows 7 vs. Snow Leopard has its plusses and minuses going both ways.

Pros:

HDMI works well for watching Hulu on my HDTV.
Brushed metal case means fingerprints aren’t a problem.
Quiet fan and hard-drive.
Wi-Fi is easy to set up (Windows 7 is rock solid).
Light-weight and easy to carry or stick into a travel bag.
13.3 screen size is a happy medium between a Netbook and a Laptop.
Keyboard is easy to use.
4 Gig of RAM is snappy.
13.3 screen size is a happy medium between a Netbook and a Laptop.

Cons:

Battery slowly drains if not plugged in.
Mouse pad wants to start Sticky Keys at times. Fixed by disabling Sticky Keys. Occasionally the mouse pad is briefly unresponsive.

Notes:

Although the battery lost 10% of its charge in 30 minutes while surfing the Web in normal mode, it recharged to 100% very quickly.

ASUS UL50AG-A2 Thin and Light – Laptops 2010 Review
Price Range : $774.95 ~ $949.60

It is thin and light and with great decent build quality. The multi touch mouse is a little too sensitive but I believe with the correct collaboration, it can be easily fixed. The screen is bright with the LED backlighting. The keys are loose feeling, and it’s a bit clangy. On the other hand, I like having the numeric keypad – will be great for certain games like Civ. And clearly, you can still type on it. I’m giving it 5 stars anyway because the overall package of price and quality is still a great deal. Windows 7 is much improved versus Vista. They have a lot of stylish icons and whatnot in the ASUS Bios, and they have even spent the time to put a fastboot OS onto the laptop.

The battery in real life test lasted me about 8-9 hours while surfing the internet. There are additional features which I have yet to masters like smart login with camera. All in all, very satisfied with the purchase. The only thing I found a bit disappointing is that one of the rubber thingies that hides the screw already came off on day two. It does not impact the performance in anyway but it’s a bit disappointing. Also there are alot of screw points around the monitor as well which was a bit of a surprise. This is an amazing machine. I did a lot of research on laptops and decided to go with this one. It is the perfect balance between weight, style, and performance. It is a speed demon of a laptop. Very fast start up, no lag, and has everything you want except bluetooth.

positive : super thin and light, large hard drive @500gb, bright LED widescreen, HDMI out at 1080 resolution, webcam which has face-recognition authentication, 10 key number pad, decent altec lansing speakers, stay cool keyboard, quiet fan, averaging 10+ hour battery life.

negative : windows 7 premium 64bit OS is a bit buggy with 32bit apps and device drivers , no built-in bluetooth, fingerprints left on black brushed aluminum case, maximum capacity of 4gb ram.

The laptop uses the su7300 Intel core 2 duo processors, which in my opinion is more than adequate for a poweruser. I can run adobe CS4 suite, MS Office, several different browsers and VMware workstation running 2 VMs (2003 server and Fedora Core11) all at the same time.
